Workplace Coaching

Coaching is a learning and development tool that focuses on improving business/personal outcomes and performance by improving people performance.

It is widely held that 80% of people leave organisations because they are being poorly managed. The quality of management is also the single biggest determinant of the performance of people in the front line. As such, coaching lifts the competence of managers to optimise the performance of their people. The most impactful way to do this is to use a practice based methodology whereby after each workshop, every training program participant is coached by a Performance Coach – a professional skills and behaviour coach.

Using proven and practical content that can be applied easily on the job, coaches can help your team members, managers and leaders:

  • Communicate clearly, honestly and objectively with their employees about performance issues
  • Understand what drives performance
  • Deal with performance issues in a constructive way that leads to improvement
  • Develop employees through effective skills and behaviour coaching
  • Manage change in a way that wins the commitment of employees
  • Demonstrate leadership through vision, strategy, and effective utilisation of the collective intelligence of the team
  • Build and sustain mutually beneficial relationships with drink-reports, colleagues, managers and customers
  • Negotiate win-win outcomes which enhance the relationships of the negotiating parties

Performance coaching for sustained behavioural change

The underlying adult learning premise that disciplined practice is required over 120 days, means that one-on-one coaching sessions, spaced at regular intervals, are held for participants to fully internalise the skills and behaviours in each segment of the learning.

Individual coaching tutorial sessions are conducted by one of our Performance Coaches. Coaching sessions are 45 minutes in length and are conducted face-to-face or remotely by phone, ideally held at 2 weekly intervals. Each individual coaching tutorial session is structured around a proven methodology - Reflection, Practice, Reflection, and Assignment.

Small group coaching tutorial sessions for up to 8 participants are also available and are useful for some development programs where skill development relates to group interaction.

The Role of the Performance Coach

  • Clearly identifies the type of skilling being sought by the learner
  • Function as a change agent to advance the learner's skill level
  • Drive and provide discipline in the learning process
  • Ensure that the learner remains discontent with their skill level to keep them motivated until competence is achieved
  • Ensure that the accountability of both the coach and the learner is maintained
  • Provide support to ensure that the learning goals are achieved
  • Provide a safe, confidential and politically free environment for dialogue and practice

Skilled coaches recognise that different individuals have different development needs. The most impactful coaching is one that is designed to allow the executive or manager to chart their own personal development course. Our coaches have expertise in coaching interpersonal, people management and leadership skills and behaviours.
